When hairdryers (among other things) turn on us

Does anyone else feel like try as they may, they just can't get their act together?

I am doing my best to keep a positive attitude, pray through challenges, extend my levels of patience, respond to outbursts and tantrums and sibling rivalry with that soft word that turns away anger (oh soft word: why are you so hard to find sometimes?)... but if yesterday didn't unravel like a college sweater that needed to be thrown away years ago, crescendoing with the most impressive screaming fit I've ever seen from a child EVER (oh, Ellie) and a booster seat-turned-waterfall as Robbie wet his big boy pants (distressed, perhaps, by his raging sister?)...

And then there's the exterior stuff, and the choices that life hasn't always asked me to make (such as: would you like to keep the peace during the worst 2 hours of the day or would you like to have a home cooked dinner? Would you like to finish all of the laundry/ironing, or would you like to have the entire rest of your house picked up and in order?). I kind of want it all. I should probably start today by mopping the kitchen floor after yesterday's accident.

This morning I woke up to find that it was 40 degrees out (I woke up early, but still!). I have a general idea of where in the house my sweaters and warm clothes are, but this morning I will be layering whatever random fallish things I can find that I lazily didn't put away last season.

And because I know you all come here to get a good laugh occasionally, here is one more reason this week is going down the toilet:

Minutes ago (prompting this blog post), my hairdryer sucked my hair in through the back side where the in-take screen is. Do you know what I'm talking about? There's a little fan back there. By the time I could turn it off, I could not pull the wad of hair out. And so I freed myself with a pair of mini scissors Rob keeps in his medicine cabinet.

Time for a haircut.

Carry on!

I have been there and laughed when you talked about mopping the floor after the accident. I have neglected my floors for days...gross, I know. Life is challenging. You are doing what is important. Also, I am impressed that you are drying your hair. Too bad, it decided to turn on you! :)

Gotta love 2yr old girl meltdowns. They are quite a show! Sometimes I just want to videotape it.
Hope your days goes better and you can get a haircut:)

Thanks for the laugh in spite of the pain! And for reminding me that I'm not the only Mommy dealing with incredible, raging tantrums. Boy oh boy.

Oh man! Not the best start to the day -- sorry! But, to answer your first question -- um, YES!!! Amen to that, sister! I haven't had my act together for the past 3.5 years! And, my soft voice, it's gone on vacation and I'm desperately trying to convince it to come back!!! I love you, my friend!

i think it's admirable that you so readily freed yourself with the scissors! i would have moped around with the hairdryer stuck to my head for a while.
and the two-year-old girl tantrums are amazing, aren't they? i never knew...
i love keeping up with your family through your blog. :o)
